Dublin City Marathon 25th October 2010
I positioned myself at the 15mile mark at the Kimmage road and at 1hr 10min the leaders passed a bigger group than last year with about 10 in it and all looking comfortable. The first of the Le Cheile fit4life past was Jarlath, he looked really comfortable and managed a large smile as he passed by. I just thought to myself how do they do it? but the answer is they set a goal and trained hard! I knew Tony was pacing the 3.30 group and they went passed i let a shout out "come of Le Cheile" but I couldn't see Tony nor did I see Des who's goal was to run a 3.30 marathon, I hope they heard me. I saw Veronica who passed by in a large group but she turned around when i let out a shout for her. Allison passed by, I told her she was doing great, but this doesn't even come close to how describing the admiration that I feel for every sinlge person who runs a marathon. Allison even looked comfortable enough but she told me her knee was giving her some trouble. I got the surprise of my life when as i was just clapping for the steady stream of runners passing by I heard a loud shout "Lisa Long, my god " and there I saw some old pals of mine from Blackrock Jean and john Redmond, brother and sister who currently reside in Canada. Anyway I was waiting on Cathy to come along and I was hoping that i hadn't missed her and when I saw her, so I cheered again, then I saw Marian and she too was going great. I had hoped to see Paul (Conor's dad, his first marathon) but unfortuanately I didn't spot him amongst the steady flow of fantastic people.
Apologies to anyone that I have left out, all the Le Cheile crew were supported by family members and friends along the route and I'm sure they were delighted to hear their names being called out and encouraged along the very long hard 26 mile route of the Dublin City Marathon.
Well done to you all you are fantastic!
Round 1 Leinster Cross Country 24th October 2010
Next up was Liam Murphy, this was his debut race, Liam didn't compete in the Kildares. Liam had a good start and moved forwards passing out many athletes on the way. Liam was also running 2k, again a very competative race and he gave it his all, with legs turning to jelly he made his last push on for the line and finished a very respectable 33rd again out of over 150 athletes. The kildare boys team finished as the 2nd County and Liam scored on this team, he was the fifth Kildare Boy home and earned himself a well deserved Silver medal (he hasn't received it yet). Liam will now run on the Kildare team at the All-Ireland Championships.
U14 boys were up next, Conor Kiely, Conall Hayes and Sean Flanagan, all the boys got out well but unfortunately lost some ground during the 3k race, they all raced well, but I'm unsure of where they finished, its hard to judge with 160 in a race. The Kildare team were 3rd County but they results aren't up on the Leinster web site yet so not sure if all the lads scored on the Kildare team. So watch this space.........well done boys. Conall and Sean will also be competing on 7th November. Leinster have posted the results, delighted to say that Kildare County Boys U14 took third County and both Sean (27th) and Conall (37th) scored on the Kikldare team.
The last competitor was Conor Murphy, stepping up a year and running a very tough 6k. Conor got a good start and was with the leaders at 2k, not sure what exactly happened, Conor began loosing ground and the learders began to pull away, at 4k Conor dug deep and regained his concentration and did well to finish a very respectable 14th, just missing out on the provincial team. Kildare County did not have an u18 team in this race unfortunately. Conor will compete in his own age group on 7th November in Wexford. Best of luck all.
Many thanks to parents for your continued support and thanks to Liams dad Willie for the photo's. They will be posted for you to see.

U11 Girls: Emma Browne(25th) Carragh Hayes (9th)
U13 boys: Thomas Connolly & Patrick Flanagan
U15 boys: Darragh Nolan
U17 Boys: Conor Murphy 1st - Kildare Champion.
The Girls U9 were the first up and they did great they all had smiles on their faces, for Abbey and Aoife is was their first taste of competition. Well done. U9 Boys, both Oran and Ruairi had a great debut race and they were cheered on by their proud parents. U11 girls, this saw an increased distance this year. Carragh had a great race as was well up coming into the home straight, Emma did great and still mananged to smile at the finish. U13 boys competed well in a very large field, unfortunately I don't have their exact finishes, but well done to you Patrick and Thomas, Poor Conall wished he was running with you but had to be content with cheering them on from the sidelines. Nest up was Darragh Nolan, running out of his age, Darragh put in a very solid performance and did himself and the club proud, up against lads who were twice his size he finished in fine style, Darragh race was 3k. Last but not least was Conor Murphy, Conor worked very well in his race and looked very comfortable and dealt with the pressure from his rival from Newbridge, who remained on his shoulder. Conor did all the work but on this occasion he was not to be beaten and stretched his lead to over 200m to win. Congratulations.
Many thanks to all the parents who cheered and supported all the atheltes today, thanks also to Pat Hayes a fellow coach.
Can I remind all parents that all athletes are entered into the Kildare Championships and that we will try arrange lifts if parents are unable to attend themselves. Please just let us know. The next round is on Sunday 10th October in Crookstown. Its the even ages, so U10's - U18 with Master Men and Women, but that also means that all athletes can move up an age group to compete ouU9 can move up and compete out of their age, eg; U9 move upwards to U10 and so on.

Liz McDonnell - 5k Cross Country
This is a great annual charity event run in the grounds of Castletown House. All monies raised on the day go to a very worthy cause (ARC cancer care) and keep the memory of the wonderful Liz McDonnell alive. It is a race that is suitable for all levels and normally includes a large contingent of walkers in ...the field. Given the rain that we have had all week, the ground is likely to be a little tender underfoot. Hope to see many from Le Chéile supporting this great event.
Entry is by donation on the day of the race. Registration from 1pm in front of Castletown House.
For more information on the wonderful (and personally experienced) work that ARC do, see http://www.arccancersupport.ie/

Le Cheile athlete David McCarthy has been officially named on the Irish team for the European Championships later this month. David will be competing in the 800m but has also been named on the 4x100m relay squad. David has represented his club and his country on the international stage many times before and no doubt he will take this oppertunity in his stride. This event displays the strength of Kildare athletes as we will also see Newbridge's Roseanne Galligan in the 800m and Claire Brady from Celbridge in the 4x100m women's relay. Congratulations to David, Roseanne and Claire on qualification and best of luck to them all in the championships.
The European Championships take place in the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona from the 27th July to the 1st August. For more information click here

Round 2 Kildare Track & Field 16/05/10 - Results
The u14boys medley relay was certainly a show stopper, Conall Hayes ran the first 200m in great style and handed over to Conor Kiely, they lads were in third place when Conor handed the batton over to Patrick. Patrick had a flying 100m and handed it to his brother Sean. Sean had a lot to do but had 400m to do it and by god did he do it. Sean took off like a hare and chased down competition from St Coca's and then off the final bend he chased down Celbridge and went ahead to take Gold for Le Cheile. Pure brilliance! Congratulations boys.
Julie Boyle and Holly Fagan were also in action in the U17 200m, Julie finished in 3rd place with Holly in 4th. The girls also competed in the U18 Long jump, Julie finished in 3rd place with Holly in 4th.
Conor Murphy U17 was in action, and it was a great day for Conor. Conor lead the 1500m from start to finish and took Gold. He also competed in the 100m and took Gold. He should have stopped there but I think the excitement of seeing Sean Flanagan run the last 400m of the relay got to him and he decided to have a go at the 400m himself. Conor ran the 400m in fine style and won. So a triple Kildare Champion - 100m,400m & 1500m. Congratulations
Thanks to all the parents for their support, well done to everyone who competed.

Kildare Track & Field Results 2nd May 2010
30 Athletes took part in these championships and a good day was had by all. Starting with sprints and ending with the relays. The feedback that I have received tells me that the U17 boys relay was the race of the day, considering that two of the boys were a number of years out of age. So well done to all. All Ireland Indoor Race Report 27/04/10
Anyway Conor's race was list for 3pm and we arrived in plenty of time, Conor did his own thing and I watched the sprints as there were a number of Kildare Athletes in action.
Conor knew his race plan, he was to stay focused and work hard throughout the race. He went into the call room, the race wasn't going to be a straight final there would be two heats, first 3 from each heat and the 2 fastest would qualify for the final. Conor was drawn in the first heat, so was the current Leinster champion. Race started and they were bunched together, with the lead changing a number of times over the first 5 laps, the pace was nice and steady with 36seconds - 37:84 the time over the first 4 laps, lap 5 saw the pace drop to 38:84, lap six saw a quicken of pace and when they turned the bend into the final lap the first 3 athletes stepped up a gear. Conor was in 3rd place but on the shoulder of the guy in second, it was neck and neck coming into the home straight, final lap 32:72, Conor qualified in 3rd place for the final. Job Done and a new PB.
We watched the 2nd heat with great interest, one athlete took an early lead and stayed out in front for the 7.5 laps, he finished way ahead of his competitors. All athletes in 2nd heat appeared to be slower than Conor's heat save the winner of the heat, the exact times were not up when we were leaving. Conor was supported on the day by his dad and sister.
Unfortunately I was unable to travel down on Sunday to see Conor in the final, but he had lots of support from his mum, dad and sister. I don't know exactly how the race went but the lad who won the 2nd heat (i'll have to look up his name) won the All-Ireland title, followed by the 1,2,3 from Conor's heat, so Conor finished in 4th position, which is the toughest place to finish, but Conor took another 3seconds of his time from the previous day. Conor did say that his quads were on fire on lap 5, he's very happy with his performance and he's looking forward to the track season.
Well done and onwards and upwards! Photo to follow!

Its all happening on the International Stage
Its all happening on the International stage for Le Chéile at the moment!!! We wish David McCarthy the best of luck in the World Indoor Championships in Doha next weekend. David will take part in the 800m and has been selected for the 4X400 relay team. David has delivered some fantastic results over the last few weeks and we expect the improving form to continue. Best of luck David!
It was also confirmed by Ultra Running Ireland that John O'Regan has been selected for the Ireland team in the World and European 24 hour Championships, to be held in Brive, France on the 13/14th of May. John was selected based on his debut performance in London last year with an impressive 220km in a 24 hour track race.
We wish them both well and will be keeping a close eye on them.

Leinster Indoor Championships 27/28th Feb 2010 - Results
Conor has told me that the best preparation was no preparation, he arrived as the athletes were taking to the line so he didn't have a chance to warm up correctly and didn't have time to think about the race. Conor was competing in the 1500m U17 race and he was 2nd on the day, many congratulations to Conor. Conor had a busy week as he was in action the previous Sunday in the B All-Ireland and had also raced on Wednesday in the Leinster Schools, finishing 27th overall, in a very tough race in terrible conditions. Unfortunately there are no photo's of Conor on the podium.
Conor was back down to compete in the 800m on Sunday a bit tired, but he took to the line and with 4 laps of the track to run he finished in 6th place. Basit Enafie was competing in the 60m and 200m U17, unfortunately he just missed out on a place in the finals. Representing the girls was Julie, Julie was running in the 60m and 200m U17and made it to the final in 60m and finish 6th overall.
Many thanks to the Conor, Julie Basit and a big thank you to their parents who are always so supportive .

Also in action was Conor Murphy U17, Conor went out from the start and was in 2nd place with a lap to go, he was beaten in a sprint for the line and had to be content with 4th Place. This is out of age for Conor, unfortunately Conor was let down by his fellow Kildare Team as enough of them did not turn up to score. Congratulations on your individual medal.
Next competition will be the Indoors on 27/28th February 2010 in Nenagh. Athletes in action are, Conor Murphy, Julie Boyle and Basit Enafie.
